WHAT.you don't know algebraic geometry? But there are so many books out there, therefore it must be easy! You must be stupid! Most people don't need to learn algebraic geometry, and most people don't need to know how to program. And this doesn't make them idiots. You make kernel hacking sound trivial when it really isn't.By your own braindead criteria you're stupid as well. Quote:Hey if your going to be some idiot who's afraid to take advantage of a simple porcess of making an OS yours then stick with mac or windows! I'm 14 and know how to Kernel Hack.and with all the books it's pretty bad that u don't want to learn something new and easy as that!I usually don't post in topics like these but this just boggles the mind.Look, most people don't know how to program, and most of them don't have any inclinination to do so. The question is if such an interface can be delivered before its too late. There are so many people working on Linux, that the law of probability almost assures that eventually, someone will come up with The Interface That Makes Linux As Appealing As Windows And X On The Way It Looks Alone. Distros that have tried to emulate the look and feel of Windows will fail (Redmond Linux) as will this horrible idea of layering the BeOS GUI over Linux. It doesn't need anti-aliased text, or alpha blending, or disgusting colors (Aqua or XP's native theme).it just needs to be clean and consistent. And I think it will happen soon. The idea would be something like X, where my mom can hop on my laptop and fire up Word and Chimera and Mail.app and iTunes and get ready to roll. Ideally, it should be able to give a newbie user an OOB interface that is clean and consistent and lets the Basic Tasks occur without intrusion or unintuitive processes. One that takes heavily from Windows, BeOS, KDE/GNOME and both Mac OSes, but one that is unique, and can add value to the platform. The Bad Place is not the proper forum for those discussions.I'll drop my 2 cents before I leave this thread: Linux needs someone to come up with the killer GUI. I encourage you to post your topics in the LKF, where you'll probably get more of the discussion you're seeking. But please, you have to understand that for most users, the only kernels they'll deal with are corn kernels. And its impressive that you've dedicated some of your time to understand the fundamentals of an OS and how to tweak it to your liking.these are skills that will serve you in good stead later in life.
